Rinsing Out

I was sitting at my bedroom window watching a storm roll in. The sun was shining so this shift in the weather was subtle. I first noticed sparse gray clouds start to move sideways in a clear sky. The air coming through the screen got cooler and tree branches swayed as cherry blossoms began to fall. Isaiah 45:8 says,

“Let justice descend, you heavens, like dew from above, like gentle rain let the clouds drop it down.
Let the earth open and salvation bud forth; let righteousness spring up with them! I, the Lord, have created this.”

This verse echoes the words that Rickie Wambles; Chaplain (MAJ) USA at Martin Army Community Hospital shared with her staff during this time of pandemic and national pain. “Often, it can help, if one changes their perception of the rains of life as being refreshing and cleansing, rather than the downpour of the unpleasant,” she said. By now, the sun was going down between breaks in the clouds as night fell. There was no thunder, no lightning, just soft rain. Maybe it helps to remember that God isn’t always loud either. Sometimes He comes softly to fill our hearts with understanding, prosperity, and peace.
