Culture of Encounter

We are called to solidarity with all people because all are sisters and brothers with the same Creator God.

The Gifts of Negative Space

The other day while walking through the woods, I came to a clearing and looked up into a little patch of sky just overhead. And there, in the blue between clouds, was a baby dinosaur playing the piano! He (or she) was leaning slightly forward, back straight, arms relaxed and extended as if over a keyboard. “Easing” into Fall

We are “easing” into Fall. Of course, where we choose to live, it’s still hotter than blue-blazes, so it doesn’t feel like Fall, but the time passes whether we “feel” it or not.

Simple Graces: Daily Gifts of Joy

One Small Thing

At the end of each month, I get a newsletter from Emily P. Freeman, author of, “The Next Right Thing.” Each includes three questions, and she writes, “As I share my views, I hope you’ll reflect on yours.”

How Long, O Lord

Remember in March when we were asked to shelter-in-place and we thought: “This might be for a couple of weeks…” Months have passed since that time. Predictions are that there will be times of more loss and suffering ahead.…We may be making this verse of Psalm 13 our own: “How long, O Lord?”

The Best Way to Blossom

We have all been “brought in” and had to take shelter. To do so, we may have dug up our future – plans we planted before they could take root – but we also may have experienced unanticipated spiritual growth.

Feast of St. Benedict

I paint a lot of “Catholic stuff”; images of priest, monks, nuns and such, in their daily routine. I think sometimes we forget that clergy and religious are people too.
