In Memory

Sister Ann Miriam of the Sorrowful Mother, MSBT
November 8, 1947 – October 25, 2010
Ann Gallagher was born November 8, 1947 in Bryn Mawr, PA.  Her parents, Patrick J
Gallagher and Margaret McKee were both from the Ardmore/Bala Cynwyd area.   Ann was the oldest of the six children.
Their home life was enriched through the presence of her Aunt Ann, Uncle Francis and her eight cousins.

She entered the Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity on August 5, 1965.
Sister made her first Profession on August 15, 1967 and her perpetual profession on March 25, 1973.

Sister’s missionary life took her to Swissvale, PA; McKees Rocks, PA; Beloit, Wisconsin;
Philadelphia, PA; the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, Fl; Wareham, MA; and New Hartford,
Connecticut.  In 2007, she was granted permission for a “family leave” to care for her parents.
In 2008 she moved to the Motherhouse due to her medical circumstances.

Religious Education and youth ministry were her passions.  She also enjoyed Parish Ministry.
All of these experiences served her well in her ministry at Trinita in New Harford, CT.
In 1975, Sister Ann was invited and assigned to formation ministry and in 1976 she was
appointed to the role of Assistant Director of Novices.  The following year she was appointed to
the role of Director of Novices.

Sister Ann’s preparation for her ministry, apart from “on the job training”, included receiving a
bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Holy Family College in Philadelphia in 1974 and a
masters degree in Religious Studies with a concentration in Theology from Villanova University
in 1981.  She kept herself updated in the fields of religious education and youth ministry.  In
1994 she received a certificate in Spirituality from St. Joseph College in Hartford.

In all of her ministries she was a planner, an organizer, a teacher, a youth minister, a retreat
minister, a public relations person, and an ardent supporter of volunteers.  Sister enjoyed many
things.  Being an extrovert, she mostly enjoyed people. Her engaging personality, vibrant
spirituality, and spontaneous laugh put her in touch with the people to whom she ministered.
She played a big part in the Gallagher Fair and the Beef and Beer fundraisers that her family
sponsored for the community for many years.

In her response to a community questionnaire on the apostolate Sister Ann wrote, “I became
more and more aware of the need for a depth within a person.  Something that makes one realize
that there is more to life than that which appears externally.  Their awareness of God as
someone who loves and cares is a basic truth which should be a real lived part of their life”
