Patience, Trust and Courage

IMG_9083 (1)Since I’ve come to Holy Trinity from Philadelphia I am learning much about animals and have become fascinated by watching some of them (not the wild pigs or snakes)! With the exception of dogs, cats, and birds the only animals I saw in the city were in cages in the zoo. My new neighbors are cows which I’ve always liked watching as we drove through the country. Here I’ve taken pictures of them drinking from the large vat of water on the ground and sometimes talk to them.

Lately however, my interest has been on the birds who build nests outside our door. I’ve watched Mama sit on the eggs, then see the babies with their mouths wide open waiting for her to drop food into them. With the help of my binoculars I see their small mouths wide open as they wait for the food to come. As they learn to fly they sit on the pole that runs across the carport. They look down and around, take 2 steps to the right then 2 steps to the left still no flying yet. Then the next day I see them back in the nest flapping their wings trying to get them moving. Finally one jumps out and flies onto the pole. One day I see the empty nest and birds flying very low and I know it’s the babies grown enough to fly!

I have learned from them patience, that food will come, trust that Mama will care for them, and courage to jump out of the nest and fly. As I reflect on all this I pray that we can trust God to care for us during this difficult time and be patient in waiting for Him. May we always have the courage to jump out of our nests and fly when God calls us.
