Rule of Life

On June 2, 1985, for the first time in over four centuries, Rome formally recognized the Rule of Life of the Missionary Servants as a new and valid expression of spirituality called forth for the needs of the Church.

Many Gifts, But the Same Spirit: A Rule of Life is an official Church document which outlines a specific kind of spirituality and way of life. Most but not all religious congregations live under one of the Rules recognized by Rome. The four great Rules which have stood for centuries are: the Augustinian Rule, the Benedictine Rule, the Carmelite Rule and the Franciscan Rule. Our Rule represents a distinct new movement in the eyes of Rome.

The spirituality expressed in our Rule is a gift to the Church, called forth by the Holy Spirit for this time and place. There are specific needs the Church is facing today that we Missionary Servants have been called to meet head-on.

Our Rule of Life explains our charism more fully. We share our charism with the other branches of the Missionary Cenacle Family.

Devotions & Traditions

We have many devotions and traditions, all of which help us live out our missionary call. We give special emphasis to our devotion to:

• The Trinity: We see the presence of the Triune God in the glory of all creation and in the faces of the people we are called to serve. The love-relationship of Father, Son and Holy Spirit is a model for the family relationship we enjoy with our sisters and with the other branches of the Missionary Cenacle Family.
  
• The Holy Spirit: We have been praying a perpetual novena to the Holy Spirit since 1919. We call on the Spirit before undertaking any task, and we always pray for guidance. We experience the power of this devotion because we really do receive the gifts we need to carry out our work.
  
• The Eucharist: It is the sun and center of our lives. Every missionary cenacle has a chapel with the Blessed Sacrament. The Eucharist is the food we need to nourish us for our mission.
